The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
