The President Calls Relatives of Attacked National Guard Personnel to the White House
Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the presidential home.
He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Information on the Tragic Event
Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Memorials across the state have occurred in their memory.
White House Offer
The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both individuals of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president addressed reporters. “And likewise with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Response
Mourners came together over the past few days at a local school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been working with the state guard as part of Trump’s government program to aid law enforcement in DC.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that instructors wished for. She behaved with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the principal of her previous school, informed the Associated Press. “She was kind, compassionate and always willing to support those in need.”
Memorial plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Legal Steps and Government Revisions
Officials have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy led the administration to pause asylum processing and cease granting entry permits to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, according to the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader Morrisey stated on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on a news show that she planned to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Memory of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had bravery,” the governor informed the audience at the vigil. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
