The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network introduced a completely new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often marked by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about watching this lovable family navigate their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
