The English Team to Begin the European Championship 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground

The English squad will embark on their Euro 2028 campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, assuming they attain the expected passage for a tournament staged throughout the bulk of Britain and the Irish Republic.

Manchester City’s home ground has not staged an England men’s game since May 2016, when the Turkish team were beaten 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is almost certain to welcome the national team for their inaugural game on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The team are set to play their last two group stage games at Wembley, but, should they win Group B, their last-16 tie would take place at St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean beginning the playoffs at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Tournament Launch and Demonstration

The event was launched at an event in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were confronted as they entered the venue by around fifty pro-Palestine demonstrators, who urged Israel’s national side to be expelled from the sport because of the situation in Gaza.

Placards were raised with messages saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Schedule

The first match of Euro 2028 will be staged at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will involve the Dragons if they secure a place.

The national stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the championship match, which will be played on a Sunday in July 2028 with a commencement at 5pm.

It is hoped that an earlier kick-off, which will also be used for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will attract family audiences and help engage a wider spectrum of audiences.

Participating Countries

The Irish team are scheduled to play their first game at the Dublin stadium and the Tartan Army would play similarly at Hampden Park.

Each host nation’s squad will take part in the qualification process; two reserved places will be set aside for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through that route.

Locations and Playoffs

Villa Park and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finalize the nine host stadiums. All will hold at least one knockout match, with the last eight played at each country’s national stadium.

The qualification draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a tournament location last year when it was revealed Casement Park could not be redeveloped in time, on a date in late 2026.

Leadership Comment

“It will be a tournament for the supporters and a festival of everything we cherish about the sport – its fervor and ability to unite individuals.”

Over 3 million admissions, a unprecedented number for a men’s European Championship, are anticipated to be offered to attendees.
