Citizens have come together across the country to remember two years since the Hamas-conducted offensive on 7 October 2023, as discussions continued in Egypt over a conclusion to the conflict in Gaza.

The assault led to in excess of 1,200 people dead and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as captives. It was the single deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

Israel reacted by beginning a defensive operation in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are considered trustworthy by the UN and other global organizations.

"The aggressive enemies have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the return of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will no longer pose a risk to Israel".

Commemorative Ceremonies Across Israel

The government authorities postponed state memorials until 16 October - after the conclusion of the religious holiday season - but events still occurred throughout the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the relatives of people who lost their lives in the Hamas assault was organized in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast across Israeli TV networks.

Some time earlier, a minute's silence was observed across the country.

Ceasefire Talks in Egypt

At the same time, the conflicting parties' delegations gathered in the North African tourist destination of the Egyptian city for a second day of third-party negotiations to review the terms of the plan.

A high-ranking Palestinian official knowledgeable about the negotiations said that an late session of mediated discussions commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.

The representative stated the morning session ended without tangible results, amid differences over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not resume hostilities after the first phase of the arrangement.

He noted that the discussions are "challenging and have not yet deliver any real breakthrough," but noted that mediators are striving to reduce the gaps between the conflicting groups.

Key Matters in Discussions

  • A lasting truce
  • The exchange of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Measures for humanitarian aid provision
  • Post-war governance of the area

Civilian Feeling

In Tel Aviv's memorial area that day, 29-year-old a woman - whose brother lived through the assault on the Nova music festival, where 378 people were lost their lives and dozens more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - explained: "No location feels like home anymore and until each abducted person return none of us will feel safe."

"When we see all home returned, we can breathe again. Then we can begin to recover," she concluded.

Near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people gathered to show their backing for the relatives of the captives. Israel says nearly fifty continue in detention in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are thought to be living.

Activist one woman explained: "We must do whatever arrangement needed for the hostages to return. But we sincerely need guarantees that we will be protected."

Research now frequently demonstrate that approximately 70% of the population want the war to end in as payment for the liberation of the hostages.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the site of the music event, grieving people assembled to remember the victims.

From the site, the sound of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where local people indicated the heavy Israeli attacks persisted.

In the urban center, attacks were noted in the morning of that day in the west side Tal al-Hawa, area and locality areas and in the eastern district of the community, as well the camp to the north-west.

"Once the dusk comes, the fear comes with it," displaced Gaza City resident a local woman, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing last year, shared.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the bombings. Throughout the evening we are sleeping together, clinging, especially my youngest child who rests his head on me all night."

"Continuously we monitor the reports to see the situation. And I'm concerned that this ceasefire will not be finalized and that the war will return to us."

Health Emergency

The medical facility in the urban area announced it had taken in the bodies of half dozen people by the afternoon, including a trio who died in an Israeli strike in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Another medical facility in the southern city of the city said another two dead people had been transported. One of them was died by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get aid to the southern area, health workers reported.
