Grief as Beloved South African DJ Killed in Johannesburg.
A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been fatally gunned down in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country grappling with rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was attacked in the city centre on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Officials stated the forty-year-old presenter was accosted by a trio of assailants, one of whom shot at him before fleeing on foot.
The purpose behind the attack is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended have taken place, as per the official statement.
The Fatal Incident
Police revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was departing from a location in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.
He had been present for hours at the site supervising the implementation of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by unknown people, as per local media.
"It is alleged the deceased was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," an official report confirmed.
Security camera video reportedly depicted a suspect with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what resembled a security uniform shooting on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was wounded but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.
It was further revealed that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the assault.
Key evidence, like bullet casings, were found at the location.
Investigation Ongoing
Officials are asking anyone who saw the event who may have seen the suspects to contact them.
"We know they traveled on foot after the attack, and officers have been following their trail to establish their whereabouts," added an official.
A Nation in Mourning
His family member, Nicole Stock, said the loved ones are reeling to come to terms with the loss.
"I am in shock. I cannot express the pain," were her words.
"Everyone understood he was a champion for numerous individuals. He addressed issues courageously about topics not many people were prepared to tackle. This is a devastating blow."
She urged the citizens to refrain from sharing graphic images from the scene, noting this was an incredibly difficult time, especially for Stock's children.
A Multifaceted Career
Stock was the star of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that premiered on a popular local TV network.
In addition to his work in broadcasting, Stock was involved in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including protective services, offering elite guarding services and securing major functions across South Africa.
He was also reportedly involved in property management and participated in tenant removals.
Condolences Pour In
His death has shocked the country and triggered an flood of condolences from his fans, the authorities and political parties.
A cabinet official said he was angry and saddened by Stock's killing.
"He was forthright without fear or favour. He even challenged me and my policies as a minister. He was a true embodiment of who we must aspire to be," he stated.
A public representative commented the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a tragedy for all South Africans".
A media executive said that "DJ Warras was not merely a face of a reality series. He was a skilled narrator, a dedicated enthusiast of music and a kind-hearted individual who brought joy and energy to every appearance. His artistic passion left an lasting impression."
In a release, the network he worked for said Stock was known for his charisma, kindness and intelligent commentary, adding that his memory "will be remembered".
