Widely circulated footage appeared to show Jones making an obscene gesture at Jets fans, though he maintains he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Dallas supporters in attendance as his team secured a decisive win.
“It was unfortunate. That was kind of an exchange with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “There was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, our fans. The entire stadium was filled with enthusiasm for the Cowboys.”
He further emphasized that the signal was entirely accidental, occurring amid the elation following the team’s last score. “I simply showed the wrong digit,” he noted. “The action was accidentally performed. I’m not kidding. Should you call it accidental, you can. But it got corrected rapidly.”

This incident isn’t the first time an NFL owner has been penalized for inappropriate behavior. Previous examples include:
